Olubadan-designate, Dr. Lekan Balogun and Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Alhaji Daud Makanjuola Akinola, have been urged to intervene in the feud among traders in Oyo State and unite them.
Babaloja-General of Oyo State, Alhaji Yekeen Abass (YK Abass), made the request during the visit of the Aare Musulumi and his team to the Olubadan-designate at his Alarere residence, today.
Alhaji Abass lamented that rancour exists among the traders, in spite of all pretence at peace, and urged the two traditional and religious leaders to use their positions to bring all the warring camps together.
The Babaloja-General, in his appeal, said: “We want unity and peace among us to ensure the development of Ibadanland and Oyo State in general.
“By virtue of your positions, you are placed in vantage points to intervene in the affairs of the markets which are situated in your territories and vested with authorities to call all of us together and give us directives on what you want, which is peace, and we are bound to obey you.”
Responding on behalf of the Olubadan-designate, High Chief Hamidu Ajibade thanked the Aare Musulumi and his entourage for the visit and promised that the request of Babaloja-General would be looked into.
He also urged the religious leader to give attention to the palace of the Olubadan-designate, considering the background of Dr. Balogun as a devout Muslim, pointing at the mosque situated within the compound as a pointer to his stance.
In the entourage of the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, including Edo and Delta States were chairman, Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Abiodun Aderibigbe; deputy chairman, Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Ibrahim Olalekan; Iyaloja-General of Oyo State, Hajia Princess Folasade Abeo Nurudeen and Iyaloja General of Ibadanland, Chief Mrs Iswat Abiola Amerigun, among others.
