The national leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has described as unfortunate and barbaric the recent abduction of school pupils and teachers at Yawota and Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
This was as the party’s leadership described the incident as a menace that should be stopped from happening again, not only in the state, but also across other parts of the country.
The SDP leadership stated this when it visited the state governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, to sympathise with the state government and the people over the recent abduction of teachers and pupils
The party’s national chairman, Professor Sadiq Umar Gombe, and its presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, led the delegation on the condolence visit to the governor and the people of the state over the Oriire abduction.
The team was received by the governor at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
Mission Of The SDP Leadership
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting, Professor Gombe said the delegation visited the governor to sympathise with him and the people of the state over the unfortunate incident.
The SDP National Chairman lauded of the efforts of the governor on the abduction, stressing that leadership was about securing the lives and properties of the people as well as making provision for their welfare.
He said: “The purpose of our visit is to condole His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, the government and the good people of Oyo State, on the incident that happened at Oriire Local Government Area.
We came to also see what we can do together to avert such menace from happening again, not just in Oyo State but across the length and breadth of Nigeria as a whole.”
Also speaking, the party’s presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, called on the Federal Government to prioritise the security of lives and properties of the people, provide necessary gadgets for the security agencies and strengthen the security architecture to prevent insurgency in the country.
Other party members on the delegation included the Deputy National Chairman, Senator Ugochukwu Uba; the state governorship candidate, Hon. Michael Okunlade; and his counterpart from Lagos State, Honourable Femi Olaniyi, among others.
Recall that the school pupils and teachers were abducted, 11 days ago, by suspected kidnappers in a well-coordinated attack that has since set the state in panic mode.
While the victims are still in captivity, the state government and security agencies have working round the clock to ensure their release.
