Authorities of the Nigeria Police may have another case of homicide at hand as a police inspector was, on Saturday, found dead in his hotel room in Akute area of Ogun State.
According to a police report obtained on Sunday, the female companion (identity and address unknown) of the inspector who was identified as Haruna Mohammed, absconded before the police could come to the scene of the incident.
The police, Ajuwon Division, made the discovery, acting on a report by one Abiodun Olagunju, the owner of the hotel, named Super G Royal Hotel, situated at No 11, Anthony Uzum Estate, Oyeyemi, Akute.
The Late Inspector Mohammed was said to have lodged, along with his female companion, at the hotel at about 0102 hours of Saturday.
The police described the death of Inspector Mohammed as sudden and unnatural, stating that the manager of the hotel, Deborah Ogunjobi, found the lifeless body with no traces of his female companion.
The female companion was said to have gone to the reception at about 0600 hours of same date to ask for table water.
It was later, at about 0852 hours that the hotel manager, Deborah Ogunjobi, discovered that the door of the room was not locked and, on opening the door, she saw the lifeless of the late inspector.
Following the discovery, and upon receiving the report, detectives from the Ajuwon Division, visited the scene of the incident. Photographs were taken as the corpse was removed from the hotel room and deposited at Life Channel Mortuary, Olambe.
Found inside the bag of the late inspector was a police camouflage uniform with his rank and the name tag, Haruna Mohammed.
The police subsequently took the hotel manager to the police station for interrogation, while the female companion of the late inspector is still at large.
The SUPOL, Base 35, Ajuwon Division said investigation into the circumstances of the death of the police officer is in progress and assured that further development on the incident would be made known.
“Sitrep. Ajuwon Division: Sudden and Unnatural Death.
“Be informed that today, 15/02/2025, at about 1130HRS, one Abiodun Olagunju (‘M’), the owner of Super G Royal Hotel of No. 11, Anthony Uzum Estate, Oyeyemi, Akute, reported that, on 15/02/2025 at about 0102HRS, one Haruna Mohammed (‘M’) and a lady whose name and address are unknown both came to his hotel and lodged.
“That at about 0600HRS of same date, the said lady came to the Reception and requested for table water.
“Later at about 0852HRS, the manager of the hotel, one Deborah Ogunjobi (‘F’), discovered that the door of the room [where the deceased lodged with the lady] was not locked.
“And when she [Ogunjobi] open (sic) the door, she saw the lifeless body of the said Haruna Mohammed.
“On the receipt of the report, detectives visited the scene. Photographs were taken. Corpse was removed and deposited at Life Channel Mortuary, Olambe.
“Police camouflage uniform with INSP rank and name tag with inscription Haruna Mohammed were found in his bag.
“The manager was brought to the station for interrogation. The [yet-to-be-identified] lady is now at large.
“Meanwhile, investigation is in progress. Further development will be communicated please. SUPOL Base 35, Ajuwon,” it was stated in the police report.
