Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ona Ara Local Government, Oyo State chapter, has approached Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi with the membership card of the party.
In a significant political development, PDP, Ona Ara chapter, led by its Chairman, Hon. Mosobalaje Bakare, paid a courtesy visit to Sanusi, the Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland, to encourage him to officially join and lead the 2027 governorship bid of the party.
During the visit, Hon. Bakare praised the tireless efforts of Chief Sanusi towards the growth and development of Ona Ara Local Government Area in particular and Oyo State in general.
He expressed gratitude of the PDP to Sanusi for his unyielding support for the local government area, noting that the chairman of Ilaji Hotels and Sports has consistently championed initiatives that have positively impacted the community.
Speaking on behalf of the party, Hon. Taiwo Ibrahim, PDP Vice Chairman, emphasised that the visit was to formally recognise and appreciate the contributions of Chief Sanusi, both to the local government and the state.
In his own speech, Chief Waheed Ajao Adurodekun highlighted the pivotal role of Sanusi in the success of the PDP in the last local government election in the state.
He added that the leadership quality of Sanusi before, during and after the local government election made a lasting impact.
Chief Adurodekun then urged Sanusi to give the party a date to formally register as a PDP member, signaling the party’s readiness to back his governorship ambition.
Former chairman, Lagelu Local Government Area, Hon. Kazeem Gbadamosi, lauded the PDP leadership for taking the crucial step. He encouraged the party to fully embrace Sanusi as its flag-bearer for the 2027 governorship election.
He stressed that doing this would ensure that the party remains competitive, especially with other political parties likely to show interest in the Sanusi movement.
Former chairman, Ibadan North-East Local Government Area, Hon. Gbenga Adewusi, also commended the Ona Ara PDP leadership for its proactive approach.
He urged party members at all levels to support the Sanusi candidacy, warning that, if the PDP did not act swiftly, another party could seize the opportunity to present him as their candidate.
In his response, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi thanked the PDP for the visit and expressed appreciation for their recognition of his work.
He reiterated that the JDS Gubernatorial Movement is a reflection of the will of the people.
“The movement is not about me. It is driven by the people who want me to serve. If the PDP doesn’t offer me their platform, I will have no choice but to consider another party that aligns with the people’s demand,” Sanusi stated.
The meeting was attended by PDP leaders, including women and youth leaders, as well as party chairmen, vice chairmen and secretaries from all the 11 wards in Ona Ara Local Government Area.
