A group, Egbe Ajosepo Fun Itesiwaju Gbogbo Wa, has appealed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to allow the Oke-Ogun Zone to produce the governor of Oyo State in 2027.
The non-partisan socio-political group committed to unity, fairness and progress, made the appeal to the two leading political parties in the state and Nigeria in a statement signed by its chairman, Engineer Dauda Alade Olaifa.
The Egbe recalled that since the return of democracy in 1999, the Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa zones has never been considered for the governorship seat in the state, except lesser positions.
“That is what forms the basis for this request that the leadership of the aforementioned political parties should jettison the idea of further marginalising the Oke-Ogun region.
“Therefore, we recognise and respect your (APC and PDP) unmatched influence in shaping the political landscape of our dear state.
“The truth must be told: without your endorsement, no political ambition can thrive. This is why we come to you with open hearts and a united voice from Oke-Ogun.
“As we look ahead to the 2027 general elections, the people of Oke-Ogun are earnestly appealing to both parties – APC and PDP – to consider and support our region for the governorship ticket.
“We are not asking for deputy governor or party chairman positions this time. We are asking for the opportunity to lead. Let 2027 mark the first time Oke-Ogun produces a governor.
“We assure you, both APC and PDP, it will not be a decision you will regret. We have qualified, competent, and loyal party members spread across both parties who are ready to serve.
“We are united in Oke-Ogun beyond religious, town, or gender lines, and we will stand firmly behind your chosen candidate from our region.
“Oke-Ogun is not just ready, we are resolute. As the agrarian heartland of Oyo State, we represent strength, resilience, and dedication.
“If given this chance, we in Oke-Ogun pledge an unprecedented bloc vote that will echo far beyond the next electoral cycle,” Egbe Ajosepo Fun Itesiwaju Gbogbo Wa appealed.
The group further asked that its request should be considered, as the APC and PDP are preparing for their respective congresses, where crucial decisions about the future will be made.
“Please, hear our voice. Trust us. Try us. Give Oke-Ogun the governorship ticket, and you will find a dependable partner in progress,” it added in the statement.
