Governorship Aspirant Urges Buhari To Accent Direct Primary Bill To Forestall Imposition
A governorship aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Honourable Femi Bamisile, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to accent the Direct Primary Bill passed by the National Assembly to forestall imposition of candidates in elections in the country.
The chairman, House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency, commended the nineth National Assembly for speedy passage of the bill, saying the presidential assent will be Buhari’s best legacy to Nigerians.
Bamisile, who represents Gbonyin/Emure/Ekiti East Federal Constituency, said this in Omuo Ekiti, while distributing federal appointment letters to 10 youth and rounding off the free petrol scheme to commercial motorcycle riders across the state.
He urged government at all levels to proffer solutions to youth unemployment and its negative impacts on security, disclosing that he had sought federal employments for 52 jobless graduates in his constituency within the last two years.
Bamisle also said the Direct Primary Bill, as passed by the National Assembly, would go a long way to determine how the APC candidate for the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State.
“The bill passed by the National Assembly has changed the dynamics of politics in the country, where a few are put together to select a candidate that will represent a whole, which was undemocratic.
“If signing the bill into law would be the only legacy Nigerians will get from President Buhari, they will be happy because it represents giving power back to the people. Before you can become anything, you have to return to the grassroots and consult with them,” he said.
Bamisile however said the APC will win the June 18, 2022 election in the state, based on what he said is the fact that the primary is now the business of all card-carrying members, adding that it would give room for the emergence of a popular candidate.
The APC chieftain said the Federal Government is working hard to combat insecurity in the country, regretting that the situation looks uncontrollable because the criminals are deploying sophisticated tactics to resist attacks.
“Let me also say this, we need to address this unemployment issue. The youth that are unemployed want to survive. Universities graduate over a million yearly. How many can get jobs?
“I promised 100 jobs for unemployed graduates when I was campaigning. I have done 52 and I promise that I will meet the target before winding down in 2023,” he added.
Bamisile, addressing the beneficiaries of the federal appointments, urged them to be dedicated to duties, adding that the job opportunities will help in reducing poverty among Ekiti residents.
The APC chieftain, commended Governor Kayode Fayemi for what he said was his excellent performance in the last three years, saying this would also help the APC to triumph in the governorship election in 2022.
Bamisile described the parallel executives in Ekiti State, allegedly composed by a pro-Senator Bola Tinubu group called South-West Agenda for 2023 (SWAGA) as an after-thought, saying the party won’t lose sleep over it.
“To me, that parallel executive was an after-thought. At the credible and transparent state congress we conducted, I moved a motion for the adoption of state secretary through consensus during our congress, attended by INEC and National Committee of APC.
“The question to ask is that, why should they come out five days after the congress and set up a parallel executive? Whoever did that should have a rethink and think about the party,” he said.
