Chief Segun Oni, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ekiti State, has stated that he is contesting the governorship election, holding in the state today.
He said this in response to a release issued in his name and circulating in the social media to the effect that he has withdrawn from the election.
Oni, in release by the Director of Media and Publicity Segun Oni Campaign Organisation, Jackson Adebayo, said the letter was fake and that it did not emanate from him.
The SDP governorship candidate said the release was a deliberate falsehood, declaring that he is not withdrawing from the governorship race for the candidate of any other political party.
Oni accused the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of criminally forging his signature as a way to confuse the electorate, particularly his supporters.
The SDP governorship candidate further said the release was a complete falsehood, allegedly written out of fear the ruling party in the state loosing out in the governorship election.
“The attention of the media team of Asiwaju Segun Oni has been drawn to the fake release by the APC where they criminally forged Oni’s signature to safe their impending disgrace in today’s poll.
“In the release, the APC Media claimed that Asiwaju Segun Oni has withdrawn from today’s poll.
“We want to say categorically that the release is a complete falsehood and forgery which the APC are known for.
“The fear of APC from the beginning has been that should Segun Oni participate in this election, their candidate will be disgracefully voted against hence they resorted to falsehood and forgery,” Adebayo stated in the release.
