Newly-appointed Ag. Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has declared that he is like a lion, ready to devour internal enemies of Nigeria.
He also added that he felt lion a tiger who is ready to chase away all criminal elements from the country.
He made the declaration while addressing the Press, shortly after he was decorated with his new rank by Vice President Kashim Shettima, at the State House, Abuja, today.
Asked how he felt about his new rank, Egbetokun said: “Now, I have just been decorated and I am looking forward to taking over tomorrow morning by 11am.
“I really can’t describe how I feel presently. But if I have to tell you anything, I will tell you that, right now, I feel like a tiger inside of me, ready to chase away all criminals in Nigeria.
“And some time, I feel like a lion in me, ready to devour all the internal enemies of Nigeria. That is my feeling right now.”
Ag. IGP Egbetokun was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on Monday evening, immediately after the retirement of the former IGP, Usman Baba, was announced.
Egbetokun was born on 4 September, 1964 in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
He has a B.Sc. Degree (Mathematics) from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), June, 1987.
His other academic qualifications are M.Sc. Engineering Analysis (UNILAG), 1996; Post-Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka, 2000; and an MBA from Lagos State University, Ojo, 2004.
Egbetokun worked briefly at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos as a lecturer of Mathematics before his enlistment into the Nigerian Police.
He enlisted into the Nigeria Police on March 3, 1990, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
Senator (now President) Bola Tinubu, appointed Egbetokun as his Chief Security Officer in 1999, then as the governor of Lagos State.
Egbetokun variously served as the Commander, Rapid Response Squad, Lagos; Squadron Commander, Mopol 5, Benin, Benin City; and Officer-in-Charge, Anti-Fraud Unit, FCT Command, Abuja.
He was the Chief Superintendent of Police, Administration, Lagos State Command Headquarters, Ikeja; Area Commander, Osogbo, Osun State Commands; and Area Commander, Gusau, Zamfara State Command, among other postings.
Egbetokun was promoted Commissioner of Police on 29 September, 2020 and was deployed to Kwara State.
He became Assistant Inspector General of Police in September 2022 and was deployed to Zone 7 (Abuja).
Egbetokun became Deputy Inspector General of Police on 29 March, 2023 and was deployed to the FCID where he was until his latest elevation as the Ag. IG
