Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON has declared that a government led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) will respect and restore the dignity of the traditional institution in Anambra State.
She stated this while speaking at the formal defection of the entire executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adazi Ward 1, Adazi Nnukwu, Aniocha Local Government Area to the APC.
The defection of the erstwhile PDP stalwarts coincided with the visit of Senator Ekwunife, a frontline political figure and strong advocate of progressive governance in the state.
The defection of the entire PDP exco in Adazi Ward 1 was regarded as another major victory for the APC in the state.
The former federal lawmaker who represented Anambra Central District in the Senate emphasised that an APC-led government would ensure that traditional rulers perform their statutory and cultural responsibilities without political interference.
According to her, plans are in the offing to empower traditional rulers through legislation, enabling them to focus on providing leadership and preserving cultural heritage, rather than being dragged into partisan politics.
Senator Ekwunife highlighted key aspects of the development blueprint of the party for Anambra State, and announced that the next government would, among others:
Pay civil servants a minimum wage of ₦102,000; sponsor 250 students abroad to acquire skills and technological expertise, annually;
Provide bursaries for students and incentives for the elderly from 65 years and above and review and extend the tenure of elected local government officials to four years and ensure their autonomy, to strengthen grassroots administration.
Ekwunife also promised that the APC government would deliver practical governance focused on human capital development, social welfare, and economic growth.
She urged Anambra citizens to embrace the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu by supporting APC in the forthcoming elections.
The former federal lawmaker also assured the people that the party would restore accountability, dignity, and progress to the state.
Welcoming the new members who defected from PDP, Senator Ekwunife assured them of equal participation in the party’s activities.
She also reaffirmed her readiness to work closely with the APC governorship candidate, Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, MFR, to deliver his transformation agenda for Anambra State.
Speaking earlier, the former PDP ward representative, Chief Adolphus Nweke, explained that their defection was motivated by the outstanding leadership qualities and integrity of the party’s candidates, particularly Prince Nkachukwu and Senator Ekwunife.
According to him, both the Anambra APC governorship candidate and his deputy have demonstrated a clear vision, capacity, and commitment to transform Anambra State through inclusive and people-oriented governance.
