Hon Bolaji Tunji has said he dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Accord due to the poor management of the crisis that engulfed the party in Oyo State in the aftermath of its primaries.
Tunji, in a statement, said the APC primary was marred by manipulation while in most cases, figures were written without any election taking place.
The former Special Adviser (Communication and Strategy) to a former governor of the state, the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, is contesting for the state House of Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the Accord.
He particularly noted that no primary took place during the APC primary election in Ogbomoso North State Constituency, adding that figures were rather written.
“For example, figures were written during the House of Assembly primary election in Ogbomoso North State Constituency without any election taking place and this is what happened in most cases across the state,” he stated.
Tunji expressed disappointment with the situation of things in the progressives fold in Oyo State, noting that the 2023 governorship election was for the party to win until the crises led to the schism in the APC fold.
He also added that efforts to managed the crises were frustrated by mistrust and inordinate of some members of the party and called to question the crisis management ability of some of the APC leaders.
“Efforts were made by many concerned stakeholders to ensure that the crises were managed but due to intervention here and there, mistrust, selfish and inordinate ambition, the efforts came to nought,” he added.
Continuing, Tunji, who was the pioneer Managing Director of New Telegraph Newspaper, said the crises could have been nipped in the bud if the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Council (NEC) had focussed on solving the problems in the party across the different states.
“This was not done and this calls to question the crises management ability of these so-called leaders,” the former Special Adviser further stated.
