Alleged Child Molestation: Erelu Onaneye Seeks Punishment For Baba Ijesa
The Erelu Oodua of Aye Kingdoms, Erelu Mabel Tinuade Onaneye, has called for an appropriate punishment for Mr Olanrewaju Omiyinka (aka Baba Ijesa), if he is guilty of the allegation of child molestation made against him.
Erelu Onaneye, the founder of Erelu Oodua Mabel Tinuade Initiative Against Gender Inequality and Sexual Abuse, made the call in a release made available to Newscoven.ng
Baba Ijesa, a Nollywood actor, has been in the eye of the storm in the last few weeks following a disclosure in a video, which has since gone viral, in which he was seen confessing to having sexually molested a 14-year-old girl.
Onaneye said she was upset upon reading the preliminary findings of the Lagos State Police Command on the alleged incident and warned actor/actress colleagues of the accused to refrain from defending him.
“Proper punishment should be meted out to Baba Ijesa in order to send strong warning to other child molesters and rapists out there who have not been caught yet. I can imagine the pain and emotional trauma the little girl would be going through right now,” she said.
The Texas, United State-based cultural icon equally warned Foluke Daramola, an actress and self-confessed rape survivor, who endorsed a statement by another actor, Yomi Fabiyi (in defense of Baba Ijesa), and others to desist from taking side and stop supporting fellow actor who allegedly committed offence of that magnitude.
Erelu Onaneye enjoined the general public and Nollywood actors and actresses not to play politics with the case of the little girl, saying insensitivity would hurt her more than the actual act.
