Accept Defeat In Good Faith, Ex-Acting Gov Urges Aggrieved APC Aspirants
A former acting governor of Ekiti State, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, has urged the seven aggrieved aspirants in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary, conducted last week, to accept defeat in good faith.
Olatunbosun, a chieftain of the APC in the state, said the outcome of the primary election revealed that the people overwhemingly voted for the party’s candidate, Mr Biodun Oyebanji.
Oyebanji was the Secretary to Ekiti State Government (SSG) until when he resigned to join the governorship race.
Olatubosun, who is the chairman, Ekiti House of Assembly Service Commission said: “It is not possible for anybody or any politician to say he or she is more popular than the people.
“The power of the people is much more potent, stronger than the people in power because when they decide to speak by mutual consent that they want somebody, it is always massive.
“The voice of the people is the voice of God. What Oyebanji got was massive supports from the grassroot, the people one can call the party, themselves.
“The aggrieved APC governorship aspirants must accept defeat in good faith because it is the people that have spoken during the election.”
The former Information and Culture Commissioner in the state, lauded the Governor Abubakar Baderu-Abubakar-led Ekiti APC Governorship Primary Committee for creating a level playing ground for all the aspirants.
Olatunbosun claimed that majority of the aspirants unanimously agreed on direct primary, thereby querying why the aggrieved ones had to voluntarily withdrew for the process, if they know they are popular among the people.
“Why are they challenging the process they voluntarily withdrew from, if they know they are popular to defeat Oyebanji?,” he asked.
Olatunbosun boasted that the APC governorship flagbearer deserved the mandate, saying the people decided to vote a man that they can closely relate with.
He said, with the way things turned out during the party prinary, it showed that the masses have rejected politicians who only exist on the pages of newspapers, television and on the social media.
“Oyebanji’s emergence and victory over others is a true reflection of peoples will, wishes and desire.
“I agree that others are also good personalities. But Oyebanji is more better, popular and acceptable to the people in terms of street credibility, track records of experience, competence, diligence, respect for all and impeccable character.
“I therefore want to appeal to other aspirants to respect the decision of the people as demonstrated through their massive votes, rather than whipping baseless sentiments that people are not even listening to.
“I am more shocked that some of them are castigating the structure and leadership of the party that gave them the opportunity to be what they are today.
“It is absolutely unexpected of any of them to appear on a national television to claim to be the one financing or building the party.
“Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, though may not be talking much as the leader of the party in Ekiti State, his selfless efforts, financial and personal sacrifices to grow the party to what it is today must be respected,” Olatubosun said.
The former APC publicity secretary also said “the people have decided to go the way of Oyebanji and that is the direction. They should therefore respect the wishes of the people and wait for their own time.”
