‘Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, was nowhere near a rally held recently in Ibadan in honour of Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, said this in reaction to a report that Makinde was at the rally.
Adisa, in a release, described the report as “a compelling falsehood, aimed at confusing the fickle-minded.”
The governor’s aide said Makinde, “who took a deserved leave after handing over power to his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, was yet to return to Ibadan when the said Obidients’ rally took place.”
Adisa said: “Our attention has been drawn to an online publication, which indicated that Governor Makinde was spotted among the Obidients during a rally in Ibadan, on Saturday, September 3, 2022.
“To say the least, the publication is a falsehood, packaged to deceive the unsuspecting.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Makinde was nowhere near Ibadan when the said rally held.
“A Yoruba adage says one person cannot stand in twos.
“How is it possible for the governor who was observing the last days of his leave outside the country to be spotted among the so-called Obidients in Ibadan?
“While we will not begrudge the Obidients’ desire to propagate their candidate, we will not oblige anyone the luxury of dragging the reputation of the governor of Oyo State on accounts of false claims.”
Recalled that Governor ‘Seyi Makinde recorded a feat recently as he formally handed over the reins of governance in Oyo State to his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal.
He handed over to his deputy as he embarked upon a holiday leave to the United Kingdom where he has been reportedly holding series of meetings with some top chieftains of his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead the 2023 elections.
