The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has certified 101.7 Yes FM, a private radio station in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, okay, declaring that the station “is more than ready.”
The newly-licensed radio station, owned by ace broadcaster, Yemi Sonde (aka Jigan Akala), was given a clean bill of health following a visit by the leadership of the regulatory body, ahead of its switch on.
This was as the 101.7 Yes FM Live Studio was named “Toba Opaleye Live Studio”, after Sonde’s mentor, the late ace broadcaster and presenter, Atobatele Tajudeen Opaleye.
The NBC visiting team, led by the Director Engineering and Technology, Engineer Victoria Eke, admonished the management of 101.7 Yes FM on the need for professionalism.
This, it said, was in line with the ethics of regulations and proper inspection of the station’s facilities for the commencement of test transmission and thereafter commercial transmission of the radio station due course.
Eke, who checked the broadcasting equipments set for the radio station, lauded the management for putting in place state-of-the-art digital radio facilities for broadcasting, both on digital and terrestrial platforms.

The team was also taken on a tour of the transmission site of the Yemi Sonde Media House where all outdoor facilities were put in place for adequate and effective broadcasting services the station is bringing forth.
The inspection team also visited some other facilities in the media house to make the broadcasting job seamless for personnel during the discharge of their duties.
Among the facilities are the rooms made conducive for personnel on night duties to sleep and refresh for the next day’s job and also the academy for the training and retraining of personnel.
Engineer Eke and her team, who were impressed by the facilities in place at the radio station and the touch of professionalism, declared “Yes FM is more than ready.”
Eke also admonished Sonde on the need for sustainability, maintenance and lauded him for the standard equipments which she attributed to his long-time collaboration with the regulators through his biennial NBC/Yemi Sonde Broadcast Media Stakeholders Forum.
Yemi Sonde informed the NBC team that the station is fully prepared for test transmission and commercial transmission and also disclosed that, based on research, people are already looking forward to the radio station.
Among the NBC visiting team were the Ibadan Zonal Director, Mr Raphael Akpan, who acknowledged the giant strides of the radio station, such as the training facilities and the purchase of over 50 copies of the NBC Codes for all its personnel and Engineer Ayo Ogunkorode from the Lagos Zonal Office.
On ground to receive the visitors were the Group Managing Director, Yemi Sonde; General Manager, Fola Folayan, Human Resources and Admin Manager, Chinaza Egelemba and the engineering team, among others.
