Traditional rulers from Akokoland in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Wednesday, unanimously endorsed the chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Niger/Delta, Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for a second term of office.
The traditional rulers, who met at Ikare Akiko, said the endorsement became necessary following the unprecedented growth and development witnessed in the area in the last two years.
They also called for the cancellation of rotation arrangement within the federal constituency, stating that the arrangement has not led to any positive development and that the best hands and brain should be picked as people’s representatives.
Rising from their meeting at the palace of the Olukare, Oba Akadri Momoh, the traditional rulers said the rotational arrangement should be abolished, ahead the 2023 general election.
A communique issued and signed by all the 28 obas, noted that the issue of rotation has been laid to rest in the two local governments that made up the Akoko North Federal Constituency.
Chairman of the traditional rulers’ council and the Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadri Momoh, said they have resolved “to expressly give our approval to the reelection bid in the forthcoming 2023 election of our son, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to represent our people at the Federal House of Representatives.”
The Olukare said he and his colleagues have examined the credentials of the candidate in question and analysed his performance since he was elected to represent our constituency in 2019 till date and adjudged him to have represented the area positively.
The traditional ruler further said: “The efforts he has put into solving insecurity in our communities is commendable.”
The communique read: “After converging the stakeholders to discuss the insecurity in our constituency, he facilitated patrol vehicles and logistics for the use of the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies in the Constituency. This has considerably helped in stabilising security in our towns.
“The poor conditions of our jospitals has led to the avoidable deaths of many of our people. However, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has changed the story by facilitating mobile clinics, tricycle ambulances and medical equipment for Primary Health Care Centres across the federal constituency.
“He has facilitated the reconnection of our communities through regular construction of roads, more than we have witnessed since the advent of democracy in 1999. This has improved the economy of our constituency as we can now easily transport our produce.
“After giving it considerable thoughts, we have decided to endorse the political credentials of our dear son, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, which is widely treated and strongly backed by our people and far beyond our constituency.”
