Ekiti Court Remands 2 Suspected Cultists
An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of Adebayo Sunday and Okeowo Obafemi, both 22-year-old, in the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre for allegedly being members of a secret cult.
The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a charge for alleged cultism, as the police prosecutor, Sergeant Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on 26 November, 2021 in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants are members of Eiye Confraternity, noting that the offence contravenes Section 2 of Secret Cult Abolition and Prohibition Law, 2017.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The Magistrate, Mrs Mojisola Salau, did not take the plea of the defendants as she ordered that they should be remanded in the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice and adjourned the case till 15 December, 2021 for mention.
