Group Managing Director (GMD) of BOVAS Groups, Mrs Victoria Odunola Samson, has described her appointment as the Chancellor of Osun State University as a great honour and a call for higher service.
She said this on Thursday when the Management of the institution presented her with the Letter of Appointment to officially confirm her position as the Chancellor.
The letter was presented to the BOVAS Group GMD in her office in Ibadan by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Odunayo Adebooye, on behalf of the Osun State Government and Governing Council of the institution.
Mrs Samson expressed gratitude to the state government, the Governing Council and Management of the university for the confidence reposed in her.
She further described the appointment as an honour and pledged to support the continued growth and development of the institution.
“I thank the governor, the Governing Council and the University Management for this honour. I appreciate the confidence reposed in me,” she said.
Presenting her with the letter of appointment, Professor Adebooye said the appointment as the new Chancellor was a reflection of the achievements of the BOVAS Group GMD in business leadership, philanthropy and national development.
The vice-chancellor disclosed that the appointment of Mrs Samson has continued to attract widespread attention within and outside Nigeria, describing it as a major development for the university.
“The institution and the state government are optimistic that Mama Samson’s leadership and experience would further strengthen the university’s global relevance and academic advancement,” Adebooye said.
He commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for allowing merit and competence to guide appointments in the institution and the state as a whole.
The vice-chancellor noted that the governor has been consistent in encouraging the Management to appoint individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to the growth of the institution without political interference.
Reading the appointment letter signed by Governor Adeleke, Adebooye said the appointment of the BOVAS Group GMD took effect from 10 May, 2026, for an initial term of five years.
It was also stated in the letter that she would serve as the ceremonial head of the university and provide moral, strategic and inspirational support toward achieving the institution’s vision.
Adebooye also disclosed that the university would soon announce the date for formal investiture of Mrs Samson.
The BOVAS Group GMD received the university delegation in company of Mr Temitope Samson, an engineer and the Deputy Group Managing Director, alongside other principal officers of Group.
The vice-chancellor of the Osun State University was accompanied by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics/, Professor Adetunji Kehinde; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin), Professor Moruf Olayiwola; and the Registrar, Mrs Atinuke Oguntunde.
Others on the entourage included the Bursar, Mr Muideen Lasis; Librarian, Dr Olugbenga Adewuyi: and Director of Advancement, Mr Marcus Awobifa.
