The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has extended Christmas greetings to all journalists, media practitioners, partners and the people of Oyo State during the Yuletide.
The Oyo NUJ, under the leadership of Comrade Akeem Abas, stated this in a release he jointly signed with the Secretary, Comrade Dayo Adu, to celebrate Christmas, a season dedicated to the celebration of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.
“Christmas is a season that reminds us of love, sacrifice, peace and hope, values that remain fundamental to our profession and our collective existence as a society.
“As journalists, this season offers us another opportunity to reflect on our sacred responsibility as the Fourth Estate of the Realm.
“We must continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, truth, fairness and accountability in the discharge of our duties, while promoting unity and peaceful coexistence within our communities and the nation at large,” it was stated in the release.
The Oyo NUJ Council appreciated the resilience, dedication and commitment of journalists in the state who, despite prevailing socio-economic challenges, continue to keep the public informed and enlightened.
“Your sacrifices and courage in the line of duty are deeply valued, and the Union remains committed to protecting your welfare and professional interests at all times,” it added.
The NUJ, Oyo State Council also called on government at all levels, corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to continue to support the media, particularly in the areas of capacity building, improved welfare and a safe working environment for journalists.
“A free, responsible and well-supported press is essential to democratic growth and sustainable development.
“As we celebrate this joyous season, the Council prays that the message of Christmas brings renewed hope, peace and prosperity to every home.
“May the coming year usher in greater achievements for our union, our profession and our dear state. We wish all journalists and their families a joyful Christmas and a fulfilling New Year,” the Oyo NUJ added in the release.
