A police inspector, Mr Yusuf Suleiman Blessing who reportedly drowned, has been returned to his family with burnt body and broken skull.

The Nigeria Police Force may be enmeshed in controversies following the mysterious death of one of its officers, Inspector Blessing, who was brought back to his family in a sealed coffin, barely 24 hours after the Ondo State Police Command reportedly claimed that he drowned.

Suspicion of foul play was raised as the body of the late police officer was found burnt with a cracked skull, contradicting the initial claim of drowning.

Inspector Blessing, also known as BS Omo Alahaja, was a serving police officer at Akotogbo Division, Irele Local Góvernment Area, Ondo State until his mysterious death.

The late police officer, who hailed from Ikoro-Ekiti, Ekiti State was said to be about 50 years old.

Newscoven.com gathered on Thursday that some police officers may be complicit in the circumstances of the death of the late Inspector Blessing.

According to the source, the family of the late Inspector Blessing was initially informed that he died after drowning.

The wife of the late police inspector was said to have made frantic efforts to reach her late husband, but she was later informed by Akotogbo Divisional Police Officer (DPO) that he had drowned.

She was further informed that the body of her late husband would be brought to his house in Osi, Akure, the Ondo State capital, the following day.

Upon receiving the sealed coffin, the family and well-wishers reportedly asked that the coffin should be opened but the three police officers that escorted it refused and, rather, fled the scene.

“His wife said 24 hours after efforts to reach her husband failed, she received a call from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) informing her that her husband had drowned.

“She was told that his body would be brought home to Osi, Akure, the next day. However, when the body arrived, it was sealed in a coffin.

“This prompted family and well-wishers to demand to see the remains, but the three officers refused and fled.

“Upon opening the coffin, the body was found burnt with a cracked skull, contradicting the initial claim that he drowned. This has raised suspicions of foul play,” the source disclosed.

The Ondo State Police Command was said to have promised to give more updates, as they unfold, on the circumstances of the death of Inspector Yusuf Suleiman Blessing.
