The governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo State, Hon. Kunle Olatunji (KTJ), has declared that his ambition bothered on service to humanity and was not borne out of desperation.
This was as he reaffirmed his commitment and determination to provide exceptional leadership and quality governance to the people of Oyo State, if elected governor in the 2027 elections.
As stated in a statement, on Saturday, by the Kunle Olatunji Campaign Organisation (KOCO), Olatunji stated this during a television programme, “Politics Explained,” on Dominion TV, Ibadan.
He expressed the confidence that he will spring a surprise and emerge as the next governor of the state from 2027.
Olatunji: My ambition, service to humanity
He restated his vision to attract the best professionals and competent minds to join hands with the people of Oyo State to re-engineer and reposition the state for accelerated growth and sustainable development.
He stressed that his aspiration was fundamentally about service to humanity and a genuine desire to contribute to the development of the state, rather than a desperate pursuit of political power.
According to him, “I am determined, but I am not desperate. My interest is to serve. I am a true democrat and progressively-inclined person who believes that leadership must be about the people, their welfare and the development of society.”
The ADP governorship candidate acknowledged the difficulty of convincing some political pundits and members of the public about the sincerity of his intentions.
He noted that this was particularly against the backdrop of past experiences involving unfulfilled promises and the repeated rhetoric of progressivism by successive political leadership.
He, however, urged the people not to lose faith in the possibility of purposeful and people-oriented leadership.
He also stressed that there were still committed Nigerians capable of exceeding the expectations created by some of the remarkable leadership experiences of the past.
Olatunji referenced the enduring legacies of leaders, including Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Ladoke Akintola, Chief Bola Ige, Chief Michael Ajasin, Chief Bisi Onabanjo, Chief Lam Adesina and Chief Michael Koleoso, among others.
He noted that the contributions of the above-mentioned past leaders to leadership and governance remained significant and worthy of emulation.
He said his own aspiration represented a pledge to serve the people of the state with sincerity, accountability and purposeful leadership.
This was as the Oyo ADP governorship candidate also added that he was aiming at setting a new standard in governance that can contribute to accelerated development and national rebirth.
“Mine is a pledge and a promise to serve the good people of Oyo State and set the pace in excellent leadership and governance towards achieving accelerated growth and development.
“I believe strongly that leadership should be about service, responsibility and the collective good,” he added.
Olatunji expressed confidence that the electorate would ultimately see through what he described as the genuine intentions behind his aspiration and give him the opportunity to serve as the next governor of Oyo State.
He said the confidence and trust of the electorate in him was despite assessments by some political observers who regard him as an underdog in the 2027 elections.
He said he remained confident in the democratic process and the ability of the people to determine their preferred leadership at the polls.
“I have absolute faith in God, the people of Oyo State and the democratic process. My responsibility is to continue to present my vision, engage the people and remain committed to this journey of service.
“We have all the resources, human, natural and capital, to excel in growth and development.
“What is lacking is the visionary leadership to coordinate and direct and that is what I am poised to address with my aspirations,” Olatunji added.
