It was an emotional sight last Wednesday, 16 November, 2024, at the Idi Ayunre office of the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area, Engineer Akeem Olatunji.
That was a day when 11 appreciative group of people converged at the office of the local government chairman to show gratitude for his help for their cataract issue.
Led by Arisekola Adeniji, Executive Secretary of The Samaritan Heart for Humanity Foundation that facilitated the initiative, they were full of praises for Akeem Olatunji for sponsoring their surgery.
The surgery operation included the bringing in of doctors from Lagos to Ibadan for an initial screening where 11 people were discovered with cataract that needed surgery.
The 11 people were then sponsored to Lagos for another round of pre-surgery screening where only 10 were confirmed, the 11th being a glaucoma issue.
The final surgery has been fixed for 3 December, 2024, in Lagos, where each person will require one other person to accompany them for the journey which will last three days.
The 10 people are expected to arrive in Lagos a day earlier and stay an extra day after the surgery to recuperate before traveling back to Ibadan.
Patron of the group, Baale Taofik Olagoke of Odo Ona Kekere, was also full of encomium for the local government chairman. He thanked Engineer Olatunji for providing succour to the people who were picked without any political consideration.
Responding, the local government chairman praised Governor ‘Seyi Makinde for providing enabling environment with his milk of human kindness, adding that this has given many others the confidence to follow in his footsteps.
Olatunji said it was a pleasure helping the less privileged. He added that he saw the intervention as a call to duty, noting that anyone could need help at any point in time.
