The Oyo State chapter of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) has lauded the state governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, for appointing Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi as the acting Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The state chairman of the institute, Honourable Emmanuel Alawus, who led officers of the institute on a courtesy call on the acting Rector on Thursday, described the appointment as a round peg in a round hole.
These were contained in a press statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole.
He described Dr. Lasisi as a distinguished scholar, noting that the governor’s decision to appoint Dr. Lasisi was highly commendable.
Alawus added that CIPS has no doubt that the acting Rector would change the fortune of The Polytechnic, Ibadan positively.
Alawus is a pioneer student of the Department of Purchasing and Supply in the 1980/81 Academic Session. He urged the Management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan to make use of professionals in the purchasing and supply chain in the activities of the institution.
He advised that professionals in the purchasing and supply chain should head the Store Unit of the institution. He said they should also be in charge of purchases and supplies.
He said CIPS has a robust relationship with The Polytechnic, Ibadan; it has been supporting the department in registering student members with the Institute. He said it also consequently prepare them for full membership on passing their chartered examinations.
The Oyo CIPS chairman said training in Purchasing and Supply Chain started in the country at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
He said the national headquarters of the Institute will be located at the institution. He added that it will be done with the support and cooperation of the acting Rector and his Management team.
Alawus said a lecture theatre will be constructed for the use of the students while offices to serve as the CIPS national headquarters will be attached to the lecture theatre.
In his response, the acting Rector assured the CIPS that The Polytechnic, Ibadan, with its age and reputation, will always ensure that a round peg is put in a round hole. He added that the head of the Store Unit of the institution is a member of the Institute.
Dr Lasisi assured the CIPS officers that their request will be tabled before the Management for consideration. He pointee out that their request was not out of place.
He said the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) and other professional bodies already have structures in the institution which are to the benefit of the students.
