This was stated in a press release today by the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola.
She also disclosed that three individuals, suspected to be cultists, have been arrested in connection with the death of the three young men in the aftermath of the clash.
SP Odutola further stated in the release that the law enforcement agency got the information about the cult clash during a routine weekend patrol by the Divisional Police Officer, Sagamu, on Sunday.
“An intelligence was intercepted by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) from a concerned citizen with a private identity.
“According to the information provided, a group of unknown men suspected to be cultists, approximately six in number, had gone to the Agbowa area to foment trouble causing rival cult group clash.
“Upon receiving the information, the DPO swiftly led a patrol team to the area.
“On arrival, they discovered three unidentified young men lying lifeless in a pool of blood, with gunshot wounds to their heads.
“The victims were immediately rushed to Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital in Sagamu, where a doctor certified them dead.Their bodies were subsequently taken to the morgue,” she stated.
The Ogun Police image-maker said the scene of the crime was cordoned off, with eight expended cartridges, one live cartridge and one Samsung phone recovered from the scene.
“In connection with the cult clash, three individuals have been arrested as follows: One Oluwatosin Adeniran (25), Adebayo Oluwaseun (35) and Segun Ademola (38),” she added.
She also disclosed that there was visibility of policemen at the Agbowa area as directed by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Alamutu Abiodun.
Odutola stated that the police commissioner was physically present in Sagamu throughout the weekend to ensure the safety of lives and as well instill confidence among the residents of the town.
“Residents are advised to carry out their daily routines without any fear or hesitation.
“The Commissioner of Police is determined to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice and anyone found responsible will be prosecuted accordingly,” SP Odutola added.
