Oba Alao said this while addressing journalists after hosting Pastor Adeboye who paid him a visit at his palace, after the “Go-A-Fishing” programme of the church, held at Orile-Igbon, on Friday.
He pointed at the pervasive corruption crippling the country, and decried the alarming abject poverty majority of the citizens are subjected to.
The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon urged leaders, both at the federal and state levels, to be guided by a sense of responsibility and fear of God.
Oba Alao said he had a private discussion with the popular revered cleric, adding that the discussion had to do with the progress of Nigeria and peaceful co-existence of its people.
The Olugbon said: “Baba [Pastor Adeboye] is saying that he is praying for those at the federal level and also for those at the state level because he believes in the power prayer.
“And also, I pray for politicians, knowing fully well, you know who I am. I am a progressive king.
“I personally told him [Pastor Adeboye] that the country is at the brink because the leadership we are witnessing today is our product.
“Much is expected of them. I wish God Almighty would guide them right. But there is corruption in every part of the country.
“I am not happy because Nigerians are suffering. Majority of Nigerians are living in abject poverty today.
“We pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to move quickly and do something great to change this scenario.
“He should look at those people he is appointing. He should be able to appoint people who have the fear of God.
“Character must be part of his choice of appointment; he must choose people with good character, not only people with pedigree and academic inclination.
“They should have good character so that when they get to office, they would not continue to do things the way the others have been doing.
“The Civil Service is corrupt. Politicians are corrupt. So where do we find solace now? God Almighty will guide the president right.
“I pray for my governor, my amiable governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde. He has been doing well and I expect much from him this second term.
“Being close to the two personalities and everybody know that they are my people and I participated well in their elections. A lot is expected of them and I pray Almighty God will not let them fail us. So, that is my prayer.
“Myself and baba [Pastor Adeboye], we have talked and in due course again, I will still come out. I will be coming out quarterly, wherever things have changed in this country.
“Whoever, even in Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government, if I see that there is any error, I will expose the person.
“I have seen some weaknesses in the people he has appointed. When I see the president, I will share with him. Nigerians will not tolerate any government with act of ineptitude anymore.
“I will tell them before they get to one year in office. They must do something. Let us put politics aside now and face governance.
“Nigerians are suffering, my people are suffering. We must be able to take them out of this mess we are in, both in the North and South.
“Even in the northern part of Nigeria, poverty reside there than in the southern part. Please, this is not a joke, but we will continue to pray.
“As a royal father, I will continue to pray; and as clergy men, they are praying. So, let all of us continue to pray and God will guide us and lead us through,” Olugbon said.
