The pioneer teaching hospital in Nigeria revealed this in a letter of invitation to Baderin, Chief Technical Officer (CTO), RonArch Consult, an Abuja-based indigenous lift/elevator installation and maintenance company.
The letter to the honouree, signed by the UCH Chief Medical Director (CMD), Professor Jesse Otegbayo, was titled “Invitation To 66th Year Anniversary Award Night of University College Hospital, Ibadan”.
The CMD stated in the letter, dated 9 November, 2023, that the award was in recognition of the contributions and supports of Mr Baderin for humanity.
“On behalf of the Management, members of staff and students of this great health institution, I want to use this opportunity to commend you for your responsiveness and contributions in a modest capacities to health care service delivery in the Hospital.
“We desire and pray for a continuous cordial relationship in years to come by the grace of Almighty God.
“The Hospital will be celebrating its 66 year anniversary on 20 November, 2023.
“The annual event is meant for all the Hospital’s stakeholders, dignitaries, friends of the Hospital and individual philanthropist to grace the occasion by celebrating the past, while creating the future together to create better services to humanity.
“In view of the excellent achievements recorded over the years, we recognised your contributions/supports to humanity.
“[We] therefore invite you as a Guest of Honour and present you with an award in recognition of your service to humanity at 66th anniversary celebration Award Night of the Hospital on Monday, 20 November, 2023 at Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Multipurpose Hall by 5.00 p.m. prompt,” the UCH CMD wrote in the letter.
Mr Baderin had helped to UCH to save a lot of money when his company, RonArch Consult, recently offered to maintain the elevators in the teaching hospital at no cost.
Subsequent upon an invitation by the UCH CMD, through the Director of Administration, Mr Baderin had inspected the hitherto non-functional lifts in UCH on 2 November, 2023.
As Newscoven.ng gathered, RonArch Consult inspected five lifts in the teaching hospital and discovered that all of them were newly-installed.
To the surprise of the Hospital, Mr Baderin disclosed that, apart from minor adjustments and replacement of missing door parts and servicing, the lifts were good enough to be made functional.
He was said to have told the UCH Management that, rather than awarding a contract to his company to maintain the lift, he shall be willing to partner the Maintenance Department of the Hospital.
The CTO of RonArch Consult subsequently offered his readiness to provide free training services to the Maintenance Department to be able to take charge of servicing, maintaining and troubleshooting the lifts.
As it was gathered, Mr Baderin also said a period of one month training would be enough for the staff of UCH Maintenance Department, even as he said the company can be contacted for assistance beyond the training period.
He declared that he would not charge any fee for its services in this regard and disclosed that his company was ready to serve UCH from then on.
Speaking with Newscoven.ng, Mr Baderin said what he offered to do for UCH was his own little way of assisting a teaching hospital that has been rendering service to humanity and working to promote the good health of the people.
“UCH, Ibadan is a globally-acclaimed teaching hospital which has been at the forefront in the promotion of the medical wellness of people in Nigeria and beyond.
“On our part, it is the least we can do for a teaching hospital of this stature which has been making immense contribution to the lives of the populace over a great number of years.
“We strongly believe this gesture will boost the morale of the staff handling the lifts, more so, knowing that they are acquiring skills that may be relevant, post-retirement,” he said.
