The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old suspected cable vandal, Ayomide Ojo, in connection with an alleged vandalism and theft of house-wiring cables valued at approximately ₦2.69m in Ogbomoso.
This was disclosed in a press release, dated 24 September, 2026, by the state police image-maker, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
Arrest of the suspected cable vandal
The arrest, it was stated, was made at about 0530hrs on 21 September, 2026 by operatives of the Monitoring Unit attached to Ogbomoso Base who were on anti-crime patrol along Bosunla Street, Ogbomoso.
“The operatives accosted the suspect while he was in possession of a sack bag fully loaded with house-wiring cables suspected to have been removed from a building under construction within Ogbomoso Township.
“Following his arrest, the suspect was subjected to preliminary interrogation, during which he confessed to vandalising the cables alongside one Warris, who is presently at large.
“He further disclosed that the cables were vandalised from an uncompleted building opposite Akala House in Ogbomoso.
“Based on this disclosure, police operatives immediately visited the identified scene of crime, where the owner of the vandalised property, Salaudeen Rasaq, was contacted.
“Upon assessment, he estimated the value of the cables vandalised and removed from his building at ₦2,692,000,” it was stated in the release.
The police revealed that investigation was ongoing, even as concerted efforts were being made to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, Warris.
It was further disclosed that efforts were on to identify and arrest other persons involved in the criminal chain, particularly those receiving and disposing off vandalised cables.
The Command therefore restated its commitment to protecting public and private infrastructure across the state.
This was as it urged members of the public to promptly provide the police with actionable information on the activities of cable vandals, thieves and criminal receivers.
