The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), on Tuesday, donated relief items to the victims of the recent flood in Borno State.
The national oil company made the donation through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, NNPC Foundation.
The governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum, received the NNPCL delegation and the relief items on behalf of the victims of the flood.
NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mr Mele Kyari, conveyed the company’s heartfelt message to the government and people of Borno State over the disaster.
Kyari was represented during by the NNPCL Executive Vice President (Business Services), Mr. Danladi Inuwa.
Materials provided by NNPCL for the affected communities during the visit included essential supplies, such as food, toiletries, beddings and other household items.
Recall that Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was flooded last week following the collapse of the Alau Dam, a critical infrastructure built to regulate water flow, provide irrigation and drinking water.
Findings by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) indicated that over 70 per cent of Maiduguri was submerged by the fast-moving water. The flood reportedly displaced more than one million residents and also resulted in 30 casualties.
The devastating flood incident also destroyed properties, including houses, vehicles and farmlands and rendered thousands of people homeless in several communities in Borno State.
