Baring last-minute changes, the forthcoming governor election in Osun State will be another test of wits and strength between incumbent, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and Senator Ademola Adeleke.
Following its primary, Governor Oyetola had emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Senator Adeleke, emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the election, after the party’s primary.
The PDP governorship flag-bearer defeated five other aspirants in the party’s delegate primary which was held in Osogbo, the state capital, today.
According to a report, 1,916 delegates were accredited for the exercise and Senator Adeleke defeated the other contestants with a very wide margin of votes to emerge as the PDP flag-bearer for the governorship election.

The other five aspirants Mr Dele Adeleke, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi and Sanya Omirin, reportedly scored 01, 00, 00, 00 and 04 votes, respectively.
The deputy governor of Bayelsa State, who is also the Chief Returning Officer of the Osun PDP governorship primary, Senator Lawrence O Ewhrudjakpo, authenticated the exercise as he declared that there was no parallel exercise anywhere in the state.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo, as the official representative of the PDP national leadership, further said there was no other exercise held anywhere that was recognised by the party’s National Secretariat.
He said: “The king is known by the palace and the crown. There is no other primary anywhere in this state. I am here as the deputy governor of Bayelsa State and as the Chief Returning Officer for this election.
“There is no other exercise anywhere that is recognised by the PDP National Secretariat. And so, the palace is here; the crown is here and the king is here. As the result of this election is being announced, there is no other primary anywhere.”
With the outcome of the PDP governorship primary, it is evidently clear that the race for the Abere Government House will be a straight battle between Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP and the incumbent governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This would be a repeat of the 2018 scenario when the two candidates slugged it out in a very stiff electoral contest, with Adeleke narrowly loosing out to Oyetola who eventually became the governor.
