Sola Olatunji, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has counseled party faithful against voting for stomach infrastructure in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
He stated this in a statement on Saturday, saying all eyes are on the Ondo APC as regards the ongoing primary election to pick the candidate of the party for the election.
Olatunji also advised the Ondo APC leadership against making a wrong choice, noting that doing so would be disastrous for the party in the governorship election, scheduled for November.
“The die is cast. All eyes are on the APC primary election that comes up this morning [Saturday] in Ondo State.
“It is very clear that if the leadership of APC made a wrong choice, the consequences would be very disastrous in the November governorship election in the state,” Sola Olatunji stated.
He also said it was time for accredited voters in the APC primary election to think about the overall benefits of the choice they are making.
“We have been entertained and have also listened to plans of some notable aspirants for the state. Ondo State people have really cashed out.
“We are fully ready for the primary election. Any attempt to postpone the primary election will disrupt the entire process, which will be unpalatable.
“This is the time for accredited voters in this primary election to take their destiny in their hands and separate stomach infrastructure from their political decisions this morning.
“It has been clearly established by political scientists that stomach infrastructure induced endorsement intended to weaponise poverty. Ondo State people should have no business with poverty.
“N5,000, N10,000, or dollars-induced endorsement should not determine the direction of our votes today.
“Before we vote today, we should look at any of the major aspirants who are entitled to eight years in office and pick the most outstanding in terms of grassroots chemistry, capacity, credibility and passion for growth of Ondo State.
“We should understand that the choice we made today will determine the future direction of APC in Ondo State, especially the November 2024 governorship election in Ondo State.
“We are also saying that whoever is housing the returning officers who are supposed to be deployed across the 18 local government areas for the purpose of this election should release them immediately.
“Those who can’t function without soiling their hands in corruption will get their fingers burnt this time around,” Sola Olatunji added.
