A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Professor Adeolu Akande, has declared that Mr Isaac Omodewu cannot lead the party as its chairman in the state.
Omodewu was officially recognised by the national secretariat of the party when he was issued with a Certificate of Return in Abuja, last week.
However, some stakeholders of the party in the state, including the chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Akande, kicked against the decision of the APC national leadership, saying Omodewu is not a product of any congress.
Going further on the position of the stakeholders, Akande, a professor of Comparative Politics, said the inauguration of Omodewu as the Oyo APC chairman cannot stand.
Professor Akande, in a statement, to day, assured his supporters across the 33 local government areas in the state to remain calm while the matter is being resolved.
“This development is a temporary distraction. It will pass. We are students of history and no attempt to impose the minority over the majority has ever worked or been sustained.
“This instance will not be different. I assure all that this one will pass as well. Let us continue our work. God is on our side,” Akande stated in the statement.
