Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, at the weekend, promoted two mogajis to chiefs along the Balogun Chieftaincy Line.
The paramount Ibadan traditional ruler also advised the two mogajis and other newly-promoted chiefs to uphold the traditional values of the ancient city.
According to a press release from the Olubadan Palace, the two new newly-promoted mogajis are Chief Adenrele Lekan-Salami (from Mogaji Oyetunde to Ajia Balogun of Ibadanland) and Chief Adewale Abass Kadiri (from Mogaji Olofa Irefin to Jagun Balogun of Ibadanland).
The promotion of the two mogajis to join the Balogun Chieftancy Line, according to the Olubadan, was done in line with filling the existing vacancies in the Balogun Chieftancy Line.
Oluwo of Ibadanland, Chief Wahab Popoola Labosinde, decorated the two chiefs with the traditional Akoko leaves.
Oba Olakulehin while speaking, enjoined the newly-promoted chiefs to uphold the traditional values of the ancient city of Ibadanland.
The Olubadan said Ibadan has rich traditional values and cultural heritage. He appealed to the new chiefs not to relegate the rich cultural values and traditions of Ibadanland to the background.
“I congratulate the two of you over your elevation today. You have joined the Balogun Chieftancy Line.
“Ibadan has rich traditional values and a strong cultural heritage. I want you to uphold the rich cultural values and traditions in Ibadanland.
“You should remain good ambassadors of our traditional institution. I congratulate both of you once again,” Oba Olakulehin stated in the release.
The event, held at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, was attended by members of the Olubadan-in-Council among whom were; Otun Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja and Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole-Foko.
Other members of the Council present included Otun Balogun, Oba Kola Adegbola, Asipa Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Amidu Ajibade and Ekerin Balogun, High Chief Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin.
Also present at the event were other dignitaries, including mogajis, baales, religious leaders, traders, artisans and traditional office holders.
