Hon Kunle Olatunji (KTJ), the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo State, has assured teachers of his commitment to improving their working conditions, welfare and remuneration, if elected as governor in 2027.
He gave the assurance in a release by the Kunle OLATUNJI Campaign Organisation (KOCO) to celebrate the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) on the occasion of the celebration of the 2026 Teachers’ Day.
Better working conditions for teachers under ADP administration
The ADP governorship candidate, who celebrated them for their invaluable contributions to the development of individuals and society, expressed concern over what he described as the inadequate attention given to the teaching profession and the welfare of teachers over the years.
According to him, the development of every sector of the economy was fundamentally dependent on the quality of education and training available to the people, with members of the profession playing the central role in transmitting knowledge, developing skills and shaping future generations.
He noted that, despite the strategic importance of teachers to nation-building and human capital development, the profession has not received the level of recognition, motivation, welfare and institutional support commensurate with its enormous responsibilities.
He described himself as a son of a teacher and someone from a family with a strong tradition in the teaching profession, adding that his personal experience has further deepened his appreciation of the sacrifices and contributions of members of the profession to society.
He recalled the remarkable legacy of his late father, Pa Peter Akintayo Olatunji, whom he described as a distinguished teacher and a leading figure whose impact, alongside that of many other professionals, contributed significantly to the development of the lives of those they taught and mentored.
“Today, I reflect deeply on the tremendous impact teachers have had on my life and on whatever modest achievements I have been able to record.
“I therefore cannot but join the global community in recognising, appreciating and celebrating these professionals in this truly noble and indispensable profession,” he stated.
The ADP governorship candidate assured teachers in the state that his administration, if elected, would review existing policies affecting the teaching profession with a view to improving their working environment, welfare, remuneration, professional development and overall status within the education system.
He emphasised that a serious commitment to human capital development must begin with a deliberate investment in teachers, noting that no education system can rise above the quality, motivation and commitment of its teachers.
Olatunji therefore called on governments, educational institutions, parents, communities and other stakeholders to accord teaching professionals the dignity, recognition and support they deserve as critical builders of the human capital required for sustainable economic and social development.
He congratulated members of the teaching profession across the state and Nigeria on the occasion and expressed appreciation for their dedication, patience and sacrifices in shaping generations and contributing to the progress of society.
“Happy Teachers’ Day to our teachers. Your contributions to the development of our children, our communities and our nation will never be in vain,” he assured.
