No One Should Lose His Life Supporting Politicians-Makinde •Attends Fayose’s Son’s Wedding
Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has admonished that no one should lose his life supporting politicians, and declared that the rift between him and former Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, is over.
He gave the admonition at the wedding ceremony of one of the sons of Fayose, held in Lagos, and restated his believe in politics without bitterness.
Makinde charged individuals fighting over politics and religion to have a rethink, as, according to him, none of the two factors is worth losing one’s life fighting over.
The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, further said he and former Governor Fayose have put their differences behind them, declaring: “Whatever happened between us before now is in the past.”
Makinde, who congratulated the Fayose and Abdul families on the occasion of their children’s wedding, prayed for a blessed union for the new couple.
The governor urged politicians to play politics devoid of violence or disharmony, adding that, as the country moves towards 2023, politicians must learn that politics is not worth losing one’s life over.
He said the presence of the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and an erstwhile governor of the state, Chief Segun Oni, at the wedding should serve as a lesson to Nigerians to eschew politics of bitterness and hatred.
Makinde said: “I was on Channels TV two days ago. They said I won’t come here. Am I not here? Whatever misunderstanding we had in the past, has been put behind us.
“I want to believe that you saw me join the Ekiti people when they were told to ask for their wife. I stood up and came with them.
“Here you have former Governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, Governor Fayose, Governor Fayemi, all of them have ruled Ekiti one time or the other. They are not in the same political party.
“So, those of you who want to die because of us politicians, be careful. Politics is not something that should cause anybody to lose his or her life. We are moving towards the electioneering period, and I just want to use this opportunity to appeal to you all.”
Governor Makinde pointed out how the wedding, apart from bringing together politicians, had also broken religious barrier, as a Christian and a Muslim family allowed the solemnisation of matrimony between their children.
“People that want to divide this country on religious line, they should have a rethink. We are here celebrating, not only culture coming together, but also religious tendencies coming together.”
“If you also look at this marriage, the bride and groom are from Christian and Muslim families. So, people who also want to always fight on religious grounds should have a rethink.
“I want to congratulate Olamide and Oluwalonigba. This is the beginning of a journey and I pray that it will produce male and female children.
“Both of you have come together today to become one and God will be with you till eternity. Now that you have come together to become one, harmonise your dreams,” he admonished.
The Oyo State governor commended Governor Wike and the delegation from Rivers State for gracing the occasion and identifying with the families of the couple.
