Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, has declared that the planned nationwide mass protest will commence tomorrow.
He denied any plan to shelve the planned nationwide mass protest, noting that the NLC leadership never considered suspending the protest.
The NLC President stated this in a press release which he personally signed and issued Tuesday evening.
He attributed the reported plan to suspend the protest to fifth columnists and declared that the nationwide protest will hold, as planned.
The NLC President disclosed that a meeting held earlier today with the Federal Government yielded no fruitful results.
“We want to inform all Nigerians that we have just risen from a meeting with the Federal Government.
“There we sought to get them listen to the demands of the people and workers of Nigeria,” he stated.
He disclosed that the meeting with the government did not changed anything or the planned protest.
“It did not change the course we have set ourselves as custodians of the interests and desires of Nigerian workers and people.
“Nigerians are advised to ignore the work of fifth columnists who are working hard against the wishes of the people.
“We urge everyone to gather in our respective states and wherever we may be across the nation. Let us gather to give vent to this collective resolve.
“Once again, the Nationwide Mass Protest will start tomorrow,” the NLC President stated in the release.
The NLC President listed the demands of Labour to include the following:
“Immediate implementation in good faith of the resolutions with Congress jointly signed with Government and Trade Union Congress (TUC);
“Immediate reversal of all anti-poor policies of government, including the recent hike in PMS price, school fees and VAT;
“Fixing of local oil refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna;
“Release of eight months withheld salaries of university lecturers and workers;
“According appropriate recognition and support to the Presidential Steering Committee and the work of its sub committees;
“Putting a stop to inhuman actions and policies of government.”
