The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called for prayer against the myriads of challenges facing the country.
The association of female journalists made the call in a statement by its president, Ladi Bala, to felicitate Muslim faithful on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
NAWOJ thank God for the spiritual ceremony and appealed to Nigerians, especially Muslims, to imbibe the lessons of generosity in love, sacrifice and kindness, as demonstrated by Prophet Mohammed (PBH).
The association noted that Nigeria, at this critical point and more than ever before, needed prayer and divine intervention to overcome most of the challenges confronting and threatening its existence and unity.
NAWOJ said it has become expedient for Muslim faithful to use the occasion of the Sallah celebrations seek God’s intervention, through prayer, in the quest to tackle the various problems and challenges
“It is therefore important for Muslims to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to pray to God concerning most of the national issues for a peaceful and united Nigeria,” it stated in the statement.
NAWOJ noted with concern the neglect of family values by many parents for the pursuit of wealth, saying this accounted for the unacceptable negative behaviours in some children.
It called for more prayers and admonished parents, especially mothers’, to instill proper values and fear of God in their children and wards by paying more attention to their day-to-day activities within and outside their various homes.
“NAWOJ therefore, appealed to parents, particularly mothers, to pay more attention to their children and wards by instilling proper values and fear of God in them for a better Nigeria.
“We equally pray God to release the blessings of Eid-el-Kabir upon all our Muslim Ummah and lead Nigeria to a peaceful and successful 2023 general elections. Barka da Sallah,” NAWOJ added in the statement.
