Traditional rulers in Ibadanland, collectively known as Baales, have thrown their weight behind Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi in his campaign for the governorship seat of Oyo State.
The groundbreaking event, which took place at the Ilaji Sports and Resorts, has been described as signaling a pivotal shift in the political landscape of the state.
The gathering, marked by a sense of urgency and purpose, saw the Baales not only affirm their endorsement, but also pledge financial contributions to bolster Sanusi’s ambitions.
“This unprecedented move highlights their confidence in his ability to lead and effect positive change within the state,” it was a stated in a statement.
The Head of the Baales articulated their collective sentiment, stating that the past achievements of Sanusi and his demonstrated leadership has made him the best candidate for the governorship seat.
He called on Chief Sanusi to accept what he described as “this significant opportunity”, assuring him of their unwavering trust.
In a show of solidarity, the Baales offered prayers and shared words of encouragement, reinforcing their commitment to what they termed the “JDS project.”
Their financial contributions were handed over to Chief Waheed Adurodekun, a notable supporter of Sanusi and a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Hon. Gbadamosi Kazeem, a former chairman of Lagelu Local Government, expressed gratitude for the support by the Baales. He emphasised the unity among political stakeholders in Oyo State who are supporting Sanusi.
He highlighted that Sanusi’s vision resonates with the populace, making him a formidable contender for the governorship position.
In an extraordinary display of focus, the Baales declined entertainment from Sanusi, choosing instead to strategise for the campaign’s success.
The Ibadan traditional rulers also took possession of registration booklets, aimed at mobilising grassroots support, which indicated a well-organised effort to establish a robust political framework.
“This endorsement from the traditional rulers not only enhances Sanusi’s credibility but also reflects a growing consensus around his vision for Oyo State.
“With the backing of influential leaders in the community, Sanusi’s campaign appears to be gaining momentum, setting the stage for a potentially transformative electoral cycle,” it was stated.
At the same time, political dynamics are shifting within the ruling party, as Hon. Kazeem Gbadamosi hinted at possible realignments should the party’s gubernatorial ticket not align with the majority’s aspirations.
The support by the Ibadan traditional rulers has added another layer of complexity to the unfolding political narrative in Oyo State.
