Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has declared Tuesday, 16 June, 2026, as a work-free day in the state in commemoration of the new Islamic Calendar Year, Hijrah 1448AH.
The governor also congratulated the Muslim Ummah in the state and across the country on witnessing Hijrah.

He prayed that God Almighty would grant the Islamic faithful the opportunity to celebrate many more on earth.
The governor stated these in a memo signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, and released on Monday.
Makinde enjoined all Muslims to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity and prosperity of Oyo State in particular and Nigeria in general.
He equally charged all residents of the state to be alert and observant before, during and after the Hijrah celebrations.
The Oyo State governor urged the Muslim Ummah to always report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies, and through the state’s Emergency Number, 615.
