Gbenga Aluko’s Demise One Death, Too Many-Bamisile
Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Honourable Femi Bamisile, has described the death of Senator Gbenga Aluko as one death too many.
Aluko, a former member of the upper chamber of the National Assembly from Ekiti South Senatorial District of Ekiti State from 1999 to 2003, was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former federal lawmaker, who was also an aspirant on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State, suddenly dropped dead, Saturday evening
Honourable Bamisile, in a statement, described the death of the senator as a rude shock and unbelievable, adding that it was a devastating and an irreparable loss.
“The death of SGA, as he was fondly called in the political circle, is a great devastation and irreparable loss to Ekiti South Senatorial District, Ekiti State and Nigeria as a whole,” he said.
Bamisile, who is a former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and a governorship aspirant in the 2022 governorship election in the state, said the vacuum created by the death of Senator Gbenga Aluko will be difficulty to fill.
“Nigeria, especially Ekiti State, has again lost a resourceful, vibrant, hardworking and experienced politician. It is unfortunate that such politician could be lost in this period of our national life,” he added.
Bamisile, who represents Ekiti South Federal Constituency II, commiserates with the immediate family of the late senator who was the son of the renowned economist, the late Professor Sam Aluko, the Ode Ekiti Community, Ekiti South Senatorial District and the people of the state, especially APC members, over the loss.
Senator Aluko was said to have collapsed in his office in Abuja on Saturday and passed on when he was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
A close associate of the late Senator Gbenga Aluko from the same local government area and APC leader in the state, Chief Ropo Adesanya, said the deceased was neither sick, nor exhibited any symptom of sickness before his death.
