Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, has assured of safety of lives and property in the University College.
He gave the assurance in his reaction to the fire outbreak in a section of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hospital College in the early hours of today.
The CMD stated this in a press release by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of UCH, Funmi Adetuyibi.
Professor Otegbayo said, though the cause of the fire incident was yet to be ascertained, there was no casualty as a result of the unfortunate incident.
The UCH CMD also disclosed that all efforts were put in place to ensure that the fire was effectively put out.
He also assured the public that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure that services were not disrupted, both at the ICU and the hospital in general.
The CMD appreciated the timely intervention of the Oyo State Fire Services, the media for their concern, and the efforts of the staff of the hospital that led to putting the situation under control.
Professor Otegbayo also gave an assurance that the immediate and remote causes of the fire outbreak will be investigated to avert future occurrences of such incidents.
A purpose-built fire station for the hospital is also currently under construction, the PRO further disclosed in the release.
As reported earlier in the day, the fire incident happened in a room at the ICU but it did not in any way, affected any patients at the ICU.
The patients were said to have been been moved elsewhere in the unfortunate fire outbreak which started in the nurses lounge at the ICU.
The fire was effectively put out without human loss and much collateral damages, due to the timely intervention of emergency responders, it was reported.
