Chief Ronald Olumuyiwa Ogunleye, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress Party (APC) in Ondo State, has congratulated Nigerians for having Tinubu as president at this time.
Ogunleye, who was a member of the House of Representatives in the Third Republic, also described Tinubu as the best man for the job.
He also contested the 1999 governorship election in Ondo State as deputy governorship candidate to the late Dr Olusegun Agagu.
He described the president as a democrat, having served together as federal lawmakers at the National Assembly together in 1992, with Tinubu then being in the Senate.
Ogunleye, a former governorship candidate of the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN) in Ondo State, said: “The Tinubu I know is a just and fair person.
“He was in the Senate while I was in the House of Representatives during the Third Republic.
“Coincidentally, we belonged to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) then. He is a very experienced politician, a democrat who believed in equity, justice and fair play ”
Ogunleye lauded the appointments made by President Tinubu so far, describing them as the right step in the right direction.
He also added that Nigeria will fair better by the time the president complete making all his ministerial and other boards appointments.
Though nobody from Ondo State has so far been appointed by the president, he said there is no cause for anyone to worry as the exercise is still ongoing.
Ogunleye, who was a honourary advisor to the Presidential Campaign Council of the APC in the last presidential election, said: “The president has merely appointed his personal aides and the Service Chiefs.
“There are still many appointments to be made. At the beginning of this Republic, during the regime of President Olusegun Obasanjo, Ekiti got special adviser, Ondo got senior special adviser.
“Ekiti got full minister, Ondo also got full minister, while Ogun got Minister of State. So, it is too early to conclude that Ondo State has been excluded.
“Appointments made so far are being done gradually and on need basis. Of course, Ondo State did well by voting for President Tinubu impressively in the last election. I’m sure the president believes in equity, justice and fair play.”
Ogunleye also declared that the absence of the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, should not affect the smooth running affairs of the state.
He said: “I sympathise with our dear Governor Akeredolu at this time and I wish him quick recovery.
“I must state that governance is continuum, as the governor has constitutionally transmitted power to his deputy and the state legislative arm is functioning very well,” he said.
