The Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo has earmarked the sum of N25m as research grant for the teaching staff of the institution.
The vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Timothy Adebayo, made this known, saying it was facilitated by the new chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Olutoyin Okeowo.
Giving the details of the grant, he said the initiative was established to expose the lecturers to ways of preparing proposals for local and international grants for research.
The ACU vice-chancellor further said the move would also help the global rating of the institution.
Professor Adebayo said: “One of our core mandates as scholars is research work.
“I am delighted to announce that the Governing Council chairman, Dr Olutoyin Okeowo, has graciously facilitated research grant worth N25m to encourage our academic staff in research activities.
“Scholars who do research work apart from routine classroom activities earn global rating or recognition, especially when the result of their findings have impact on humanity and the environment.
“The scholars also become competitive in the education market.
“By extension, the university where they work have a share of the glory because they also earn global rating and recognition.”
He said, to prepare the staff for the research grant, a workshop was held where a resource person lectured the staff on how to write proposal for grant.
He added that each of the winner will get N1.5m, and also reeled out conditions that they are expected to fulfill.
“The university grant committee will receive their proposals and scrutinise it. Only the ones found worthy of being sponsored will be considered for the grant.
“Each of their proposals must state in detail research design, activities involved, expected significance, evaluation plan, dissemination plan, future plan and names of co-researchers.
“Each researcher is entitled to a single grant to ensure that the money goes round,” Professor Adebayo added.
