Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Friday, declared his assets, saying he is 12 per cent poorer since his assumption of office in the last four years.
He attributed the dip in his fortune to his failure to attend to his personal business since he assumed office four years ago.
The governor said, rather than his business, he has been busy taking care the business of running the state.
He said this when he visited the Oyo state office of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in Ibadan to submit a copy of his End-of-Tenure Assets Declaration Form.
He was also there to declared his assets ahead of the commencement of his second term in office tomorrow.
Speaking after submitting the forms, Makinde said the details will be made known to the public through his media team soonest.
The governor said his visit to the Oyo State office of the CCB was in line with the constitutional requirement expected of public office holders.
He added that the purpose was to submit his End-of-Tenure Assets Declaration Form and also declare his assets before the commencement of his second term.
He said: “Statutorily, you have to declare your assets on the assumption of the office and end of tenure.
“So, since one tenure is ending at midnight on Sunday, by law, I have to declare assets before assuming office for the next tenure.
“In view of this, I came to submit my End-of-Tenure Assets Declaration Form for the first term and declared assets for the beginning of the second tenure.
“In the last four years, I am 12 per cent poorer. This is because I have not really had the chance to look after my business.
“I have been looking after Oyo State tate business,” said Makinde, who is the governor to win a two-term tenure in the state after the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
