Football great, Ronaldinho, is launching a global street soccer league, Ronaldinho Global Street League (RGSL).
The worldwide street soccer league is part of the efforts by the former Brazilian international to give talented young players the chance to showcase their skills.
As part of the RGSL, players of all ages will be able to upload their best skills and tricks to a social media platform in a bid to join one of the groups.
The league will begin “late 2023,” according to organisers.
In major cities worldwide, head-to-head matches and skill competitions will take place.
Teams will compete for the title of “RGSL Champions” and to be part of the Ronaldinho Globe Street Team.
“We believe there is massive value in the space— and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to support the players of the future,” Ronaldinho while announcing the venture.
The location and start time of the events were however not specified.
He teamed up with Roberto de Assis Moreira, a sports agent, and former player, and Sophie Watts, a co-founder of Mike Tyson’s Legends League.
“Ronaldinho and I grew up in an underprivileged community in Brazil,” Moreira said.
“We know first-hand the power of street football in empowering youth and are fully dedicated to discovering and supporting street soccer players around the world through RGSL.”
Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, born 21 March 1980, is commonly known as Ronaldinho Gaúcho or simply Ronaldinho.
He is a Brazilian retired professional footballer who played mostly as an attacking midfielder.
Ronaldinho was however also deployed as a winger during his football career.
He was widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.
He won two FIFA World Player of the Year awards and a Ballon d’Or.
He is the only player ever to have won a World Cup, a Copa América, a Confederations Cup, a Champions League, a Copa Libertadores and a Ballon d’Or.
Ronaldinho, a global football icon, was renowned for his technical skills, creativity, dribbling ability and accuracy.
He is known for his free-kicks, use of tricks, feints, no-look passes and overhead kicks.
He also had the ability to score and create goals, all prominent characteristics of his early-age background playing futsal.
Ronaldinho is known by the nickname, “O Bruxo” (“The Wizard”).
