Deputy governor of Oyo State, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, alongside his wife, Ajibola, led top government functionaries in the state to the commendation service held in honour of the late (Chief) Mrs Justina Iyabo Ogundoyin.
The commendation service for the deceased mother of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Debo Ogundoyin, was held today at St Joseph Catholic Church, Oke Ado, Ibadan.
Recall that Chief Mrs Justina Iyabo Ogundoyin, the Iyaloja General of Ibarapaland, died on 26 March after a brief illness, aged 63.
The state governor, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde in his condolence message to the Speaker on the death of his mother, had described the death of Mrs Ogundoyin as painful and shocking.
He described the deceased as a heroine of note among women and also commiserated with the entire Adeseun Ogundoyin Dynasty of Eruwa and the people of Ibarapa land in general.
His deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal had also paid a condolence visit to the Speaker, Rt Hon Debo Ogundoyin at his Iyanganku, Ibadan residence.
Delivering his sermon at the commendation service, Reverend Fr Silvester Odugbemi, extolled the virtues of late Chief Mrs Ogundoyin, declaring that she lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation.
Father Odugbemi highlighted her contributions to the growth and development of the church where she was the finance chairperson for the building of the Father’s Chapel.
The cleric urged her children to sustain her legacies.
Speaking on behalf of the Ogundoyin family, Honourable Debo Ogundoyin appreciated the government delegation, led by the deputy governor, alongside other government functionaries.
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly assured the congregation that the legacies of their late mother would be sustained.
The church service was attended by Secretary to the State Government, Olubanwo Adeosun, Head of Service, Ololade Agboola, Director-General, Due Process, Ms Tara Adefope.
Others in attendance included the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun; Commissioner for Finance, Akinola Ojo; Special Adviser on Political Matter and Strategy, Honourable Babs Oduyoye and permanent secretaries, among others.
