Professor Adeolu Akande, chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has called on rich Nigerians to use the occasion of Sallah celebrations to remember the poor and support them.
The Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former governorship aspirant in Oyo State made the call in a congratulatory message to Muslim faithful on the celebration of Sallah.
Akande, in a statement released in Ibadan, said supporting the poor would go a long way in reducing the burdens of dependency, tension and socio-economic vices associated with poverty and lack.
The professor of Political Science further pleaded with rich members of the society not to close their eyes and hearts against the poor.
He added that the poor would appreciate all supports they can get from rich members of the society, noting that such an intervention would help them to weather through the prevailing storms.
The NCC chairman said the country is going through a challenging time and admonished that all hands must be on deck to cooperate with the government to make life more meaningful for Nigerians.
He called on Nigerians to use the season to pray to God for His intervention in the affairs of the country and to continue to support the leadership to pilot the ship of the country successfully.
He admonished the people to use the occasion of the Sallah celebrations to pray to God for His intervention in the affairs of the country and to continue to support the leadership to pilot the ship of the country successfully.
Akande explained that the global economic crisis has worsened the national economy, adding that this is taking its toll on Nigeria and Nigerians.
He, therefore, pleaded with Nigerians to support and cooperate with the government as, according to him, the government needed the support of the people to successfully tackle the various challenges.
