Senator Teslim Folarin has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead the 2023 elections.
The three-term senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District defeated four other contestants at the APC governorship primary held at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan to emerge as the party’s flag-bearer in the elections.
Folarin won with 954 votes, while his closest rival, Chief Bayo Adelabu, scored 327 votes and Dr Azeez Adeduntan, Barr Akeem Agbaje, SAN and Mr Akeem Alao scored two (2), 15 and six (6) votes, respectively, while 11 votes were counted invalid.
The APC governorship primary was conducted by a primary committee of the party, led by Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi from Lagos State.
Giving his post-election victory, Senator Folarin said there was no victory, no vanquished in the Oyo APC governorship primary.
Six aspirants, including Folarin, Adelabu, Adeduntan, Agbaje, Alao and Chief Niyi Akintola, SAN (who pulled out of the exercise on Friday), obtained the APC governorship Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms.
Akintola had alleged that the delegate list was tampered with and also petitioned the APC leadership, declaring that any primary exercise conducted on another day beyond the original day announced by the party is invalid.
