Mr Peter Obi, believed to be a frontline presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has withdrawn from the 2023 presidential contest.
This was as he also renounced his membership of his political platform and the main opposition party in the country, PDP.
He announced his surprising withdrawal from the 2023 elections in a personal letter he addressed to the PDP national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu.
Amid speculations that he may seek to join another political party to realise his ambition, Obi was silent on the reason(s) for his sudden withdrawal from the presidential election in the letter dated 24 May, 2023.
Just about some 48 hours ago, a group was reported to have counseled the now former PDP presidential contender to drop the party and seek for the realisation of his ambition on the ticket of another party.
Obi also gave a hint that he may be looking at another political party for the realisation of his ambition as he clearly stated in the letter that he is resigning from the PDP.
The letter was titled: “Dear National Chairman, Resignation From Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Withdrawal From the Presidential Contest.
Obi wrote: “I am writing to intimate you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was conveyed to the Chairman of Agulu Ward 2. Anaocha LGA, Anambra, effective Friday 20 May, 2022.
“Consequently, I am by this letter informing you of my withdrawal for the PDP Presidential Primaries. It has been a great honour to contribute to nation-building efforts through our party.
“Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.
“Our national challenges are deep-seated and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country. My commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm, even if the route differs.
“I wish to thank you personally for your graciousness and leadership. I wish you well and best of luck in the service of country.”
