Senator Uche Ekwunife has said capacity-building is very essential for bridging skills gap, noting that it will help in the actualisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, also added that education was necessary to fit into the larger society in a fast-changing world.
Ekwunife spoke at the Senator Uche Ekwunife Event Centre, Awka, during the Zonal Strategic Capacity Building For Youths In Anambra Central Senatorial District.
The federal lawmaker said the workshop was tailored at empowering participants with breadth of skills rooted in competencies, describing youths as important contributors to the economy.
Ekwunife said the knowledge gained upon the completion of the workshop would help participants in their everyday activities and added that the workshop was in line with her unrelenting commitment towards human capital development and youth empowerment.
Represented by the head of her Liaison Office, Awka, Mr. Nonso Ofozoba, the chairman, Senate Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation commended the turnout of the participants.
Senator Ekwunife restated her continued readiness to keep attracting empowerment programmes capable of improving the quality of lives of her constituents.
Recall that the federal lawmaker had since the inception of the ninth Assembly organised over 15 empowerment programmes, free medical outreach, as well as offering a strong voice on the floor of the senate.
In his remarks, Assistant Director Enterprise Development and Promotion Department, Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Chukwuma Ugwuoke, appreciated Ekwunife for always having the interest of her people at heart.
He described the senator as the best performing senator in the National Assembly and charged participants to pay rapt attention to resource persons saddled with the responsibility to expose them to different skills and knowledge.
President of Students’ Union Government of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Charles Ijeomah, eulogised Senator Ekwunife for providing opportunities to constituents toake meaningful impact in the society.
He said the workshop was a very memorable day in the lives of youths across the zone and acknowledged that the footprints of the senator across the zone were praiseworthy.
Other participants described Ekwunife as a youth-friendly senator and the highlight of the Day-Two session was practical training of participants in food and snack-making processes.
