My Senatorial Ambition Is People-Oriented-Wale Ajani
Wale Ajani, a former president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has said his ambition to contest the senatorial election in 2023 is people-oriented, informed by the quest to promote the welfare of the people of Oyo Central Senatorial District.
He said this at a media parley held in Ibadan where he announced his intention to contest the 2023 elections, adding that he knows and has what it takes to lift the people out of poverty.
Ajani, who is seeking the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the election, also said the state governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, does not have any preferred candidate for the Oyo Central Senatorial District slot ahead the election.
The senatorial aspirant said he is best suited for the job, adding: “Our people need empowerment and not like these ones our people give out. They need real empowerment.
“The ones they are being given aren’t ones that can take anybody out of poverty. I know what poverty means because I saw poverty in its real colour. I grew with my parents in a room.
“I have a lot of programmes for the people. We will group them. We won’t be elitist but there is going to be serious enlightenment. Our people need to be taught the effect of not be swayed by immediate gains.
“I have seen people who were empowered with freezers, hair dryers, motorcycles etc. They ended up selling them. Some have converted their freezers to cabinet where they keep their pot of soup. First, we need to know what people want and how to tackle it headlong.”
Ajani said he belongs to no faction of the ruling party in the state, but rather believes in the leadership of the party under Governor ‘Seyi Makinde.
“I believe in the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde. There is nothing Governor Makinde is doing that other governors aren’t doing. He is just trying to take charge. I submit to the leadership of Governor Makinde.”
The senatorial aspirant also said he is sure that Governor Makinde has no preferred candidate in Oyo Central Senatorial District.
“I understand the governor’s countenance. I won’t be contesting if the governor has pitched his tent. All of us are his persons,” he said.
Ajani said he stands a good chance to get the PDP ticket to contest the senatorial election, noting that he is in a good stead to showcase his capacity, if elected.
“I am running election and I am not waiting on anybody to give me money. If I lose election, I am also not going to be crying in one corner and I am not getting loan to run an election. That is very clear,” he added.
