Wilder Got No Love For Me For Defeating Him Thrice-Tyson Fury
World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, has accused Deontay Wilder of not being sportsmanlike and devoid of love and respect, aftermath his victory in their third title rematch.
Fury had, on Saturday night, retained his heavyweight championship belt after defeating Wilder via knockout in the 11th round of their third title rematch at the T-Mobile Arena, a multi-purpose indoor arena on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, United States.
The champion accused Wilder of having no love for him, saying he reached out and went over to embrace his defeated opponent after the fight only to be rebuffed.
“All the allegations that were made towards me … We fought like two warriors in there and I went over to shake his hand and say ‘well done’ and he was like ‘no, I don’t respect you’.
“It was a great fight tonight, it was worth of any trilogy in the history of the sport. I’m not going to make any excuses, Wilder is a top fighter.
“He gave me a real run for my money tonight. I’ve always said, I’m the best in the world and he’s the second best. Don’t ever doubt me. When the chips are down I can always deliver.
“He’s got no love for me, Deontay Wilder. Do you know why? Because I beat him three times. I’m a sportsman and I went over to him to show some love and respect – and he didn’t want to give it back.
“That’s his problem. I’ll pray for him that God will soften his heart. I just hope that he’s OK, he took a lot of punishment tonight,” Fury said.
The Gypsy King, whose career appeared finished when he left the sport for more than two years amid open battles with addiction and mental illness, defeated Deontay Wilder with an 11th-round TKO on Saturday night.
The classic fight included five knockdowns in the third fight between the two heavyweight boxers, just as Fury insisted he won all the three fights against Wilder, even though the first was scored a split draw.
Fury dropped Wilder in the third round, then came off the floor twice in the fourth himself before roaring back from near-defeat with knockdowns in the 10th and the 11th rounds.
